Lost and Found is a project created by the Nikkei National Museum with featured posts from our friends aimed to generate a conversation across our community. This conversation, with your help, will let us put names to faces and places. Each week we will post new photographs and we hope you will join in by leaving your comments on who or where or when or what you think about the photograph. Visit our online collection to explore more photographs or stop by and visit our museum!
This information comes from Tom Matsui who identifies his brother, Yoshio Matt, on the right. The photo probably dates from spring 1943 and the location is likely on Huron St. south of College St. in Toronto where brothers Matt and Frank boarded with a Japanese family. The year is probably 1943 because very few Japanese-Canadians were allowed in Toronto in 1942 but more were allowed in 1943. Matt obtained permission for younger brothers Jack and Tom to come to Toronto in November 1943. Perhaps someone else can identify the others in the photo.
